Definition of Para-Aramid Fibers: A manufactured fiber in which the fiber-forming
substance is a long-chain synthetic polyamide in
which at least 85% of the amide linkages attach
directly to two aromatic rings.
Standard Filament Size: 1.5 denier per filament (dpf)
Standard Cut Lengths: 1/8?, 1/4", 1/2", 3/4", and 1"
(3mm, 6mm, 13mm, 19mm, and 26mm)
Other lengths available upon request.
Shrinkage, Hot Air, 160oC, 4 min.: 0.1%
Breaking Tenacity: 22.6 g/den
Elongation: 4.0%
Modulus: ~81 GPa
Density: 1.44 g/cm3
Initial Moisture Content: 7.0%
Average Moisture Regain of Para-Aramid: 3.5 to 7.0%
Effect of Heat: Does not melt. Decomposes at about 900oF.
Chemical Reactivity: Good resistance to diluted acids and bases. Degraded by strong mineral acids and, to lesser extent, by strong mineral bases.
Dispersion: Easily dispersed in aqueous and non-aqueous systems. Surface treatment to aid dispersion applied as required.
Packaging: Standard packaging is corrugated boxes with polyethylene liners. Custom packaging available upon request.
